Chairman’s letter

Andrzej KassenbergIt is a pleasure and privilege to start my first annual report statement as chair of the REC’s Board of Directors with the great news that, as of October 31, 2012, the REC is a fully fledged international organisation, based on the entry into force of its multilateral international agreement. This opens a new chapter in the history of the organisation and makes it possible to harmonise the REC’s legal status in its countries of operation.

A fully project based organisation, the REC supported activities in 2012 at international and regional level that benefit national governments, local communities, NGOs and schools. Strategic documents have been developed; capacity-building events organised; best practices identified and promoted; research supported, particularly on health and environment; and actions undertaken in the field of climate change and clean energy.

The REC continued to strengthen regional progress and transfer lessons learned, helping to stimulate regional discussions on the challenges of sustainability and resilience.

It is my sincere hope that the REC’s positive work will continue in the years to come and that we will be able to go on reporting such significant developments and valuable achievements in the future!
