Environmental Management

Industrial reporting

Within the framework of Serbian–Norwegian bilateral cooperation, the project “Setting up the Environmental Management Centre (EMC) in Serbia”, which is based on a partnership between the REC and the Serbian Environmental Protection Agency, promotes efficient emissions monitoring and reporting. Ten industrial facilities in Serbia received a tailor-made environmental management and reporting system, including training events and regular bulletins.

Sustainable consumption and production

As a consortium member of the European Topic Centre on Sustainable Consumption and Production (ETC/SCP), contracted by the European Environment Agency, the REC supported the implementation of the Roadmap to a Resource-Efficient Europe and helped build capacity at national level for the development of national resource efficiency strategies and action plans. The implementation of waste policies in the EU was analysed, support was given to the EEA in developing a pilot project on waste, and EEA member countries were assisted to develop national waste prevention programmes.

The REC helped to finalise the outputs of the “SPREAD Sustainable Lifestyles 2050 European Social Platform” project, which included the Sustainable Lifestyles Roadmap and Action Plan 2012-2050, and a final policy brief. The “iFuture” workshop was organised at the REC, exploring carbon footprints and the lifestyles behind them.

Within the project “Enhancing the Connectivity between Research and Policy Making in Sustainable Consumption” (CORPUS), the REC developed integrative modalities of knowledge brokerage at the policy-science interface, promoting evidence-based policy making on food, mobility and housing at EU and national level and strengthening the policy orientation of research communities.

Waste management

The REC continued to host the sub-regional secretariat for CEE of the International Partnership for Expanding the Waste Management Services of Local Authorities (IPLA).

The ZeroWIN project aims to prevent waste in industries through resource-use optimisation, taking industrial residues as secondary raw materials.
