Executive Director’s message

Marta Szigeti BonifertDespite the turbulent times, the REC has been able to strengthen its position through efficient project management, policies and expertise. We can be proud of all our successfully implemented projects that have had such a positive impact on the region.

During 2012, the REC actively contributed to global processes aimed at strengthening regional progress, transferring lessons learned and consolidating our achievements. Global conferences such as Rio+20 helped us to initiate regional discussions on the challenges of sustainability and resilience. Internal trainings were also organised in the framework of the REC’s Sustainable Development Academy.

We continued our longstanding strategic partnerships with the Italian Trust Fund and the Japan Special Fund, and I would also like to express my gratitude for the ongoing support of many other partners, including the European Commission, Sweden, Italy, Austria, Norway, Hungary, Finland, the Netherlands, Japan, the US and Switzerland. We are deeply grateful for all contributions from the donor community.

As 2013 brings new challenges and new opportunities, I trust that the REC, in pursuing its mission, will continue to generate changes for the common good. You are welcome to join us on the journey!
